Engel watched Atari walk up, he gave him a smile, glad that he could make it. He scratched the back of his head at the Atari’s offer responding, “sounds good to me, I kind of haven’t been around for a while, I don’t remember very many of these stores here.” Engel hoped once they could sit down and relax so that he could be a little more open with Atari, wanting to have complete honesty between them. He still had questions for Atari about what had happened. With a short flashback in his mind of being punched in the face as Atari stormed off. He shrugged it off ready to follow Atari to where he thought would be a good place.

With a smile gracing his face, Atari motioned with his head the direction of the Restaurant & Bar. It was off to the side, away from the main streets, and surrounded by black brick even though the rest of the building that sat on top of it was smooth gray concrete. A golden, metal nameplate hung on the wall beside the engraved wooden door. Without a second thought, Atari opened the door for his companion, and the both entered the restaurant. They went in, stepping on laminated dark wooden flooring. It looked a lot larger on the inside than it did on the outside. The whole place had a rustic atmosphere, but the dark colors of the bricks and furniture created a classier environment. Dark wooden tables were scattered across the space and booths lined one side of the walls. On another side, a classic bar monopolized the space. A single bartender manned the bar, making a few drinks for the customers that sat there.
A waiter dressed in a simple white button up, black vest and pants, and a tie greeted them and brought them to a small table for two that was available. Even though it was still somewhat early in the evening, the place already had quite a good amount of customers. As usual, the waiter asked the two of them if they wanted to start off with anything to drink. Atari ordered some alcohol to start off, showing the waiter his ID. The waiter jotted down the order and turned to Engel, waiting patiently for the man to order something. Looking back down at the menu, Atari wanted to see if there were any appetizers he could order to start off as well.

Engel glanced at the menu, ordering a drink shortly after Atari. Engel was a little bummed he didn't get IDed. As he glanced back at his menu for food he heard is phone vibrate, with an annoyed look he said, "sorry one second." Answering it he could hear one of the men assigned under him informing him of a unusual hollow emergence in the woods. Sighing he said, "go check it out and get back to me if its important." He shut his phone and shoved it back in his pocket. Smiling up at Atari he said, "I'm sorry... I still have to do my duties, but what have you been up to today?" He didn't bother to much with what to eat figuring he would copy Atari's choice.

While Engel took care of the phone call, Atari decided to order some food for to start. His stomach was growling louder and louder, and he wanted to silence it before it became too noticeable. As an appetizer, he said to the waiter, "Can I have an order of the T-bone steak, rare, with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables, two orders of the 4 piece oysters on ice, one bowl of clam chowder and the house special marinara pasta to start off?" The waiter looked at him a bit confused when he said it was just to start off, but nodded before leaving to put the order in. Atari managed to keep one of the menus to order more later on.
Although he was curious as to what the commotion was about on the phone, Atari knew that it would be bad to start off with such a serious subject on their date. Engel was the one to start the conversation by asking what he had been doing today. His expression saddened a bit, remembering how he let Elizabeth get involved with that pervert. He smiled, trying to hide his own disappointment, and answered, "I went shopping with Elizabeth today. Her dress got ruined earlier this week, so I promised to buy her a new one..." His words trailed off, remembering what he had actually bought for her in place of the ruined outfit. A small blush crept up on his face. At that time, the waiter came with their drinks and oysters. "T-Thanks," said the young male, taking a gulp of his drink immediately.

Engel let out a small laugh. He had a hard time picturing Atari helping Elizabeth with dresses, and then he remembered what he had looked up from the stores inventory and blushed a little. "Well that was nice of you. I've been working on having cameras installed all over the city so I can monitor the tournament." He sipped at his drink wondering what follow-up questions might be coming his way. Thinking if he was as honest as possible, perhaps that could at least start to bridge the rift he drove between them.

They continued on with small talk until the food came out. Atari just ate like he usually did, unable to wait any further as his stomach rumbled painfully. "Ugh... sorry about this," he muttered after swallowing a large bite of pasta. There was even sauce left over on his face due to his impatience. If it had been anyone else besides Engel, Atari would have been fine eating the way he did. Yet the person in front of him is the man himself... the young male felt even more embarrassed at his childish manners. 'I should've ate something before meeting up with him. Ugh, he'll probably think I'm just some stupid kid now,' thought the young male, seeing as Engel currently held an older appearance.
As his stomach settled a bit, Atari began to slowly eat his food instead of wolfing down everything. "S-So... what made you ask me... to grab a drink with you?" he asked, hoping that it would be an alright time to do so. Continuing on, he added, "I... I know I'm still selfish for asking. But I want to know how you felt when you left us... and if you're really back, not just for work, but for us too."

Engel had been starving, he had not touched a single thing all day being cooped up in his lab. He ate a fiendishly, even though it was a gigai he still had to treat it like a human body, and most times he could forget to do this when caught up in his studies. Wiping his mouth clean he wanted to rest his hand over Atari's, but resisted the urge to responding to his questions, "Why wouldn't I want a drink with you my feelings haven't changed..." He let out a sigh and continued, "maybe I was a bit insensitive when I explained earlier, but it hurt leaving your guys side." He took a big drink finishing his beverage trying to find the words he would continue with.
After a refill and a little more food he felt he had pushed the silence to its breaking point continuing again, "If I hadn't gone back there would of been another disaster just as big as the one. that had happened, it would of been a massacre just the same." Taking a sip he pressed on, "I like to think I helped save you and Elizabeth from more than you know, but it never meant the tournament was on hold. While I fought so did you two." Looking up he met Atari's eyes more courage now than before and rested his hand over Atari's saying, "I am back now, even though I'm a teacher now, I'm gonna do what I can to make sure you guys live through it from both sides." He waited nervously for Atari's response hoping his actions over the last two years had made more sense to him now.

Those scarlet red eyes rested on the large hand that covered his own with such warmth. Everything he heard overwhelmed his senses, and the added skinship only made his emotions heighten. Whether it was his racing heart or the alcohol, his face turned bright red. (Could he even look up?) His eyes remained fixed on Engel's hand as he responded to such a confession, "I-I-I don't h-h-hate you. I just...I'm just... I was worried... if..." Thinking about what he wanted to say, his pulse seemed to slow down. Still without looking up, he continued, "If they told you to leave again... then wouldn't you just leave me again." The last of his words came off as a whisper as he withdrew his hand. He grabbed hold of his drink and finished it in one sitting.
When the waiter dropped by, Atari asked for another refill of his alcohol with a small salad and chocolate souffle. The waiter inwardly sighed, surprised that the young male was still ordering more. Since the food in front of them was finished and his cup was empty, he had nothing to distract himself with. More thoughts spiraled in his mind. He peeked up to stare at Engel, and their eyes caught each other. As he stared at him, his mouth just moved, "If I asked you to stay even if they told you to go, can you stay here? Stay here with all of us... stay here with me."

Engel didn't hesitate he said, "If I wasn't allowed to stay... It could become problematic, but I would go through anything for you." Knowing the possible outcomes of such an event he pushed them to the back of his head, he was serious, and he wouldn't second guess himself on this. He finished his drink setting the glass aside. Watching as the desert got to their table, he didn't care for the salad, but the souffle looked delicious, and he eyed it longingly.

Engel's response came as a huge shock. His heart sped up when the man specifically pointed it out that he wanted to stay by the young male's side. A part of Atari's heart wanted to wholeheartedly believe the man sitting in front of him, while another part of him felt afraid of being betrayed again. That fear might always be there, but he understood that if he did not try to trust him again, he would never know what would have happened. The "what ifs" would be constantly terrorizing him. Even with such worries, he decided to enjoy this rush of emotions fluttering about in his stomach. 'W-We've just drank too much...' he thought, in an attempt to calm his nerves.
With the last of the food arriving, Atari set out to eating the salad first. He saw his partner stare at the dessert like a starving child looking at the cake displays. (This seemed to give Atari a sense of deja vu, which is probably because of that time he acted like that when he saw the new bakery shop and its cake displays.) He spoke up, telling Engel, "You can start on it if you like. Save me a bit." Seeing Engel like that really made him think of the past. 'Those two years were probably long because I missed you that much... I wonder if you felt the same in those few months back home,' he thought as he admired the man across the table. He set to finishing his salad and moved his fork towards the souffle in Engel's possession. "Where do you want to go after this? Do you live nearby? We should at least sober up fully somewhere safe," he began asking and saying, while he tried to grab a bite of the small cake.

Engel smiled at Atari and said, “I never would have taken you for such a light drinker, don’t worry I’ll watch your back while you sober up. We could always go to the park for a stroll, I’m sure the trees look awesome with this spring weather.” The waiter came by with the bill Engel snatching it quickly and putting a card inside for the waiter to take back, not even looking at the total on it. Smiling at Atari he said, “I did ask you out.” He wasn’t sure if paying the whole bill would bug Atari or not. As his card came back he did stand up and stretch asking, “so you want to go?”

Atari did not notice that he had drank at least three large glasses of alcohol by the end of the meal. His face definitely felt warm from both the drinks and emotions in him. At Engel's suggestion, he agreed that going to the park would be nice. The night's cool air would be able to lower the temperature of his hot blood. While he thought of that, the waiter brought over the check. There was no chance in grabbing it at all since Engel placed his credit card in the booklet and quickly handed it back to the waiter. As the young male was about to protest, the older man waved it off with a simple statement of giving the invitation. The check returned for Engel to sign it, and once that was done, the two of them left the restaurant.
Again, it had been a while since the shinigami visited the area, so Atari led the way towards the park. The sun had set, and a nice breeze blew by. It even made Atari smile as he stretched his arms into the air. When he looked around to find a place to sit, he noticed a few couples walking along or sitting at some of the benches in the park already. He scowled at this turn of events, hoping that he would have had some nice alone time with Engel. Apparently, the other couples had probably thought the same way. As they continued walking in search of a place to sit, Atari started talking. "Just so you know, I'm not that drunk! I can probably fight 10 guys back to back if I wanted to. I've been training while you were gone!" he exclaimed, showing off his arm muscles that he built over the past two years. Even though he said he was not drunk, it was probably what influenced him to talk such silliness.

Engel tried not to snicker at Atari's response with a light tone he replied, "well I don't remember you gloating so much." He was enjoying the walk so far trying to use his superior height he tried to scout out a place they could walk around and enjoy some silence alone. As he looked he commented, "though I would be lying if I said I haven't noticed the larger muscles." Finally founding the perfect place he guided them to a spot next to pond with frogs croaking every so often at the surface of the water.
He sat down on the grass under a tree looking out over the water saying, "Have to say I really miss the sites here. It's nice to see it in person instead of on a monitor." He looked at Atari seeing where he would sit, having plenty of room around them. He couldn't help but really notice the subtle changes, making it look like he had grown way to quick for what only felt like a couple months to him.

Taking a seat on the grass by Engel's side, Atari stared off into the distance across the glimmering pond with a content expression on his face. The gentle breeze blowing across the way swayed their hair to and fro. "There's honestly nothing like the real thing," he whispered, unknowingly speaking his mind. This peacefulness did not last long as Atari's cell phone rang in an odd ringtone. Without looking at the caller, the young male stood from his spot, apologized to Engel, and walked a good distance away to pick up the call. From an outsider's perspective, the calm and content look on the young male's face scrunched up with distaste.
Off to the side, Atari had received a phone call from the underground rebel leader. Although he did not like the fact that the leader was calling him with such an insecure method, the news must have been urgent enough for them to do so. "We got information about a secret government operation dealing information about our group. We would like you to infiltrate their base of operations and destroy it. They will be meeting at... the... th... lo... hotel... tel... new... istrict..." The words came out choppier until the line was cut. "Tch... that's not much that I can go on. Love hotel in the new district, huh?" he said aloud, repeating what he could make out before the call was dropped. 'Looks like I'll have to cut this date short,' he thought with a large sigh before turning around to head back to Engel. What was he supposed to tell Engel now?
OOC: While I was reading this, I thought... "superior height" bah! Way to brag! After reading on, I thought, wow... now the music is starting. Can you hear it? "Go on and kiss the girl!" Haha! I can't wait to see what's next.

Engel enjoyed the breeze as it was going by, his hair lightly swaying in the wind. He was shaken a little from his relaxation when he heard the phone ring. Looking over to Atari as he walked off to answer it he tried to eavesdrop a bit curious, but sadly he couldn't hear a thing. Engel stayed silently watching Atari as he walked back looking as if he were going to say something important. In a concerned voice he asked, "is something wrong?"
