OOC: This is a continuation from Double (?) Date. Here is a short summary of that thread: Atari Kuro went on a date with Elizabeth Hammond in the morning to early evening and bought her a swimsuit in place of the outfit she lost during a fight at the university. Their date ended badly because Elizabeth was harassed by an old pervert. Luckily, she was saved by Matthew Tier and Mao Ling. Feeling a bit useless, Atari walked her home and left to meet with Engel Glast for his second date of the day. They discussed Engel's role in Soul Society and their "past" relationship. After dinner and drinks, they relaxed at a nearby park until Atari received a phone call from the underground rebel leader. The government was holding a secret meeting to share intel on the rebels at the new "love" hotel in the newer district area. Atari, although surprised, was assigned with a female partner, who helped him deal with the government agents and destroy all the files. As Atari escaped separately, he bumped into Engel in his shinigami form and is taken home to explain the entire situation and involvement.
Having quickly reached home due to Engel's shunpo, Atari grabbed the key out of his pocket and opened the door to his house. He motioned for Engel to enter and left to grab the first aid kit. Honestly, he forgot that Engel had his healing kidou (since it had been so long), and set himself ready to sew his own wound. At the smell of blood, Ryoshi came down from Matsu's room. Matsu followed behind, finding out that his younger brother had returned home from his errand. "AAATTARRIIII!" he yelled as he rushed down. The wolf and older brother stood in the living room and stare at their new visitor and the wound on Atari's arm. Matsu's face turned serious as he aimed one of his guns toward Engel. Atari quickly stood in between them, dropping the needle and such to stop the fight. "Wait! He's not the one who did this. I was working and got a little careless," he exclaimed, explaining to his brother. With reluctance, Matsu lowered his gun, still glaring at the other man. His expression only calmed when he realized that this man was also the one who took care of Atari during the young boy's high school days.
As they all settled down, Matsu pulled Atari to the couch and sat beside him, preparing to stitch up the younger male's wound. "I didn't think you'd let yourself get shot like this... if you needed help, you could've asked me," Matsu muttered softly, worrying as usual. "It's nothing, really. They sent a partner for me. If it wasn't for her, I think you'd be pulling a bullet out of my arm right now," Atari replied, half-jokingly. The younger male's red eyes stared up to Engel. "You can sit down. I'll tell you what I can," he said. This surprised the older brother, who accidentally pulled on the thread a little too tightly. Atari winced at this, but received a quick apology. Matsu spoke up to what the boy said, "You're going to tell him about them? You sure you can trust him? Didn't he disappear on you for two years?" Atari sighed and said to his older brother, "I'll talk to you about it later." Turning to Engel, he said, "I've been working for the Underground Rebels after that whole incident. I couldn't stand doing nothing... I've been training with them ever since and started doing missions for the U.R. Everything that I've been doing is to help the people and stop this stupid tournament." He gritted his teeth, thinking about how the government and religious cult have been disregarding the people for their own selfish gains.

Engel wasn't to amused by the gun, but let it go after Atari had explained the situation to his brother. At the invitation to sit he picked a spot on the other end of the coffee table in the room and sat on the floor. He found it sometimes better to listen while being in a less comfortable position. As he listened he came back to some questions, "are you always this involved with them? Does Elizabeth know what you're doing?" Engel didn't like thinking about Atari getting himself into these kind of situations alone, and could only imagine Elizabeth wouldn't leave his side if she knew. The Atari he remembered did not trust people easily to just have some random person meet up with him to do a mission... He was starting to gather that this group had to be pretty well organized, something Atari must have trained together with these people hard to accomplish doing stunts like he had seen. He looked down his hand resting on his chin trying too piece the info together like a quilt that had frayed apart from abuse. He wanted to help Atari, but this rebellion... so many unknown variables, he had never considered that the living world would have conflicting issues just as crazy as the afterlife.

In his mind, Atari fought with himself to continue on and answer Engel's curiosities. Logically speaking, the more that he told the shinigami, the higher the risks of getting the rebels caught. It was not a smart move to even tell anyone about his involvement. Thinking about it, Atari recalled how he tried to put some distance between him and Elizabeth when he first joined the rebels. Every time he returned with another wound, she would cling to him with a worried expression. Sometimes it looked as if she would cry due to his selfishness. Back then, they argued, saying irreversible and unforgettable things. Eventually, he realized how much he hurt her. She was the one who stayed by his side even though he always tried to push everyone away. It was because of her that he maintained his humanity after the second major incident (and Engel's disappearance). After countless arguments and the passage of several months, he finally explained to Elizabeth how he joined the rebels to fight against the Seraphim and end the tournament once and for all. Surprisingly, she allowed him to do what he wanted as long as he promised that he would limit his interaction and involvement with the rebels for his own safety. He promised her without a second thought.
Even so, there were still a lot of things he had to do. He became stronger to protect her and avoid getting into life-and-death situations by gaining more experience from his missions. Since he obtained fewer injuries, Elizabeth approved of his actions and stopped asking him about it. Now as he faced Engel, he felt as if he was the one who was betraying everyone's trust and feelings. Maybe Matsu felt that way too. Maybe they all felt that his involvement with the rebels was too reckless. 'No...' he thought, his hands balling into a fist. He looked at Engel with a serious expression, stating without hesitation, "I have and will continue to work with the U.R. as long as this tournament is still going on. As long as I'm still alive, I will fight with them." After a slight pause, he continued his statement, "I would fight anyone that stands in my way. If I didn't, then all those people that died, their families and friends... they would've died an unnecessary death." At that moment, Matsu finished stitching up Atari's arm and applied some gauze. Atari looked at his brother and thanked him. In return, Matsu ruffled the boy's hair and went into the kitchen, yelling aloud, "No problem! You want anything to drink?" Atari refused the offer, but his brother returned with some glasses of water for both Atari and Engel. His older brother's kindness brought a smile to his face.
Matsu's personality really helped lighten the mood, and before the night ended, Atari smiled again. With a soft sigh, he finally took the time to answer Engel's second question. After the man asked about her, his thoughts went on overdrive and brought all those unwanted memories and emotions back to him. It soured his mood. After calming down with the glass of water, he stared into Engel's sapphire irises. "Elizabeth knows that I work with them, but not to this extent. I don't want her to worry anymore. After all... she hates all this fighting too. It... It really makes me want to protect her," he softly said. This caused Matsu to pout like a child, but he managed to keep his opinions to himself. "I took on any and all jobs for them... even the dirty ones," he said, recalling that moment. Matsu chimed in on this immediately, "You mean that time when that rich fat lady wanted a 'personal' bodyguard?" This made Atari cringe. "D-Don't remind me! You could've helped me out! Flirting's your specialty, isn't it?" The two siblings bantered back and forth childishly. When they finally had enough, Atari went back to nitpicking at the things he would tell Engel. "The U.R. is always recruiting new people. That's kind of what I wanted to ask you about, but... I don't know how much your Soul Society would let you get involved in. It's more of a personal request, since I thought... we could... fight together again. Still, knowing that you work with another group... they might not be as warm and welcoming as I would. Even I had trouble when I was first recruited." Again, he thought back to that time. Honestly, he felt glad that they accepted him into their group. Although he still does not know everyone in the U.R., they are like a family to him. "I'm still glad to have a family like them."
Hearing him say that made Matsu really happy. He knew his younger sibling had trust issues especially after living with such heartless parents. Within these past two years, he saw his brother grow into a man, finding a new compassion and strength for humanity. It would have been fine for Matsu if Atari stayed the way he was back then as a mindless puppet, but this turn of events gave him more comfort. His own life changed when he saw Atari's desperation to survive and protect someone. Without needing to hear his younger sibling mention him with such gratitude, he knew how much Atari cared for him as well. "I'm glad too," he said out-of-nowhere, patting Atari on the head. This caused Atari to blush from embarrassment even though he enjoyed it.
OOC: Phew! And that's the end of it for tonight. I hope you like it. Time to sleep!

Engel had looked up to see how Atari reacted as he explained, there was a feeling of true passion as he said everything. Sighing audibly he muttered out a, “sorry… this is hard for me, I’ve only been gone a couple of months, but for you it’s been years.” Pondering to himself he thought, ‘this is why we shouldn’t meddle in the affairs of the living…’ He shook his head trying to get the stray thought out and said, “I want to help you, not them, but you. I’m not sure if I want to be involved in this or not, though I’m sure my superiors would love whatever data I could collect from this.”
Engel stood stretching his arms behind his head taking the glass of water Matsu had brought out, and started to drink it. Looking at the stitched arm he frowned and said, “Sorry, I could have healed that for you. I still could if you wanted me too.” He didn’t want to meet Atari’s eyes after offering, knowing he had purposely let Atari suffer with his wound. Before Atari responded he got a crackling noise in his ear, the voice of himself letting him know his Gigai had called in.
The voice cleared up a bit as they adjusted the signal, in he his ear he heard, “someone is tracking Atari, the blood he left in the alley is being used for it, some magical user from the tournament by the looks of them. Rewinding the records looks like he had been asking a lot of onlookers around the incident questions before he got to the alleyway.” Other details on what the person looked like were shared as Engel looked over in Atari’s direction and muttered with his finger over his ear, “We’ll deal with it.” He walked back to the center of the room telling Atari, “Someone is tracking you from the blood you left in the alley. I shouldn’t have brought you home.” Thinking back on his current research into magical users he continued, “Ok we need to choose fast, but few options, we can run from them until the blood he has dries out, or backtrack and take them out, but they would be seeing you coming.”

The two brothers stared at the shinigami, both having forgot that he had healing powers. As they were about to comment on it, Engel received an important message, which he repeated to the two of them. Matsu threw an irritated glare towards his younger brother when he found out that Atari was leaving blood in places he should not... again. Atari turned his head so as to not meet with his older sibling's glare. With an exasperated sigh, Matsu spoke up first, "I'll handle Atari's pursuers." The younger brother opened his mouth to protest, but Matsu cut him off by saying, "I know you're not that hurt and you can probably handle them. But I rather have the upper-hand by surprising them. I'll wear one of your jackets, pretending to be you, and backtrack with Engel. You and Ryoshi stay here and take care of any uninvited guests." When Matsu got this way, Atari rarely got a say in things. His older brother had more experience with many things than he did, so he usually listened to him obediently.
Matsu left to change into some of Atari's clothing. When he returned, he looked super excited, making a twirl around as if he was in a fashion show. "I get to wear Atari's clothes!" he exclaimed to no one in particular. 'Man... why do you have to be so embarrassing...' Atari thought, putting his head in his hands. "S-Sorry about this," Atari mumbled softly to Engel as they watched the older sibling twirl around happily with flowers and sparkles floating around him. After a while of this, Matsu straightened up and put on a serious look. "Alright. Let's go," he stated, heading to the door already. "You'll lead the way, Mr. Death God."

"Well then guess we'll retrace our steps." Once they got outside he held Matsu like he had Atari, giving the same, "Hang on." He hopped into the air his Gigai whispering the magic users current position in his ear. He landed a few blocks before they would intercept letting Matsu down. Crossing his arms he said, "I'm not going to be able to stop them, being an instructor and all." He wanted to wait for Matsu's plan if he had one, knowing it was up to him.

Matsu had to admit that the shinigami's shunpo was really an amazing method of travel. He definitely felt a tinge of jealousy as they reached their destination within a matter of minutes. They settled on top of a roof, finding the small splatter of blood, which most likely belonged to Atari, and concluded that this was the place to be. Matsu quickly looked around the area to map it out in his mind for the upcoming battle. 'Exit. Fire escape behind the rooftop entrance. Nearby building, a 10 foot distance. Balcony.' After finishing his thoughts, he smiled, satisfied with the preparations. He turned to Engel with nothing else to do and listened as the other man explained how he would not be able to help. Matsu understood the rules and waved the problem off easily. "Don't worry about it. I can take care of everything. Give me a little credit, why don't you?"
On the outside, it seemed like they only waited in silence. Matsu kept the hood of his sweater up and remained quiet for the most part after his last comment. In actuality, he spent the time to devise a plan. Knowing that the man beside him was an educator (meaning he could not be challenged), it could give them a larger advantage. He finally spoke up after settling on that notion, saying, "Look, I'll only trust you for Atari's sake. Other than that, we're not really the best of friends here. With that said, I want you to engage the enemy first. You don't have to fight em or anything. Just go out there and meet them first. Figure out their motives. Why are they following my brother? Maybe even figure out what their powers are." If the shinigami did as he asked, then Matsu could get the jump on them after they spill the beans. It would save him some time instead of needing to torture the information out of them. He smirked at the thought, recalling the grand old times. Pushing those memories aside, he smiled in his friendly way and added to the conversation, "After that, I'll come in and save the day! Good plan?"

“I have just the thing in mind to distract them,” He smirked hopping off the roof focusing a simple little kidou into the hilt of his sword as he snuck along the wall. He could hear the light footsteps of someone getting closer about to pass, he counted the timing between them steps before making his move. The follower was shorter than he imagined as it walked in a full robe from head to toe carrying something in its hand following it like a compass. Engel having knelt down extended his arm quickly as the person was taking a step with their right leg he pushed the end of the hilt into the left as it lifted for the next step tripping the person up. As they fell to the ground the kidou had pushed the soul out of the person’s body linking them to each other with a chain from chest to chest. Engel was a bit surprised to see a girl about the age of twelve in a nun outfit rubbing her head in confusion. Taking advantage of the situation he jumped over to stand between her spirit and body. The girl looked up at him confused with soft confused cry of, “What happened?” Engel put on a stern look crossing his arms over his chest and said, “You have just had an unfortunate accident, and are now being judged so that you may go to the afterlife.” She looked at her body thinking she was dead with big pools of tears in her eyes and started bawling. Engel tried hard to keep a serious face as a sweat drop fell down the side of his brow. Clearing his voice he said, “There is no use in crying over spilt milk! Now prepare to have your soul judged.” She wiped her eyes sniffling as she did so crying out, “I don’t deserve to go anywhere! I couldn’t even finish the lord’s first mission granted unto me!” She looked down in shame wiping away tears as they came. Engel was getting a little annoyed with the girl and tried asking, “And what was your mission young one.” She looked up to him replying back, “It’s to find the injured and welcome them back to the Serephim’s embrace!” Engel could only stare blankly as he thought about it, ‘Did she just say she is hunting down injured people to kill them…’ He shook his head not wanting to accept that, telling her, “You’re misguided, whoever’s flock you attend is all misguided. Perhaps I should just cut this chain and free you to your afterlife.” He pulled his sword out placing the edge against a link of chain. She cried out trying to pull the chain away from the edge of his sword, “No, please! I ‘m sorry I want to serve, give me my chance to serve.” She cried bowing down to Engel on her hands and knees. With some thought he said, “What’s your name?” She kept her head down as she cried out, “Sela it’s Sela.” He smiled then asking, “And what can you do if to make up for your transgressions if I let you live Sela, how are you going to help your fellow humans?” Looking up with a pitiful face stained in tears she said, “I can use my magic to heal them… and protect them.” Engel smiled down at her thinking she finally understood telling her, “Bingo.” Grabbing her by the back of her outfit he dropped the girl onto her body it sank in with a small pop, and he could see she was passed out from the stress of being out of her body. He looked over at Matsu asking, “So, what do you think we should do with her, I don’t think it would be wise to keep her laying out here, and she doesn’t really seem to know anything.” Engel picked the girl up in his arms finding a cross hanging from her hands that had been dipped in Atari’s blood. He grabbed the cross putting it into his pocket for safekeeping.
OoC: HAH! I named it, now you cant kill it

His eyes followed the black robe as it passed his gaze. The shinigami had hopped off the roof and intercepted the one following Atari's trail of blood. Matsu got down from the top of the roof, preparing to attack. As he listened in on their conversation, he realized that his opponent was just a small child. 'Even if you are a kid, I won't let you off that easy,' he thought, waiting for them to finish their conversation. When the girl was thrown back into her body and remained unconscious, Matsu stepped out from the shadows and confronted Engel. "What do you think we should do with her?" the other man asked. Matsu replied with a smirk, drawing his weapon out and aimed at the little girl. "That's simple. We'll kill her off so she doesn't report back to her little clique or follow us back to the house," he said, pulling down the hammer of his gun.

Glaring at Matsu as he pulled the hammer back on the trigger he said, "One I'm not letting her go back to that church, and two I wont let you kill this poor child." He pulled the cross from his pocket throwing it Matsu, "She has healing abilities they could be usefull, if you don't agree then just destroy her power, but I'm not going to let you kill her." He turned his back with the girl still passed out in his arms waiting for Matsu to make his decision.

Engel's defiance against Matsu reminded the man of his younger brother. He sighed, putting the gun back into its holster and handing the cross to the shinigami. "I won't give her another chance, got it? If she ends up screwing up, I'll put a bullet in her," he stated in a dead-serious tone. After he made that clear, he stretched his arms out and made a satisfied groan as the tension in his muscles relaxed. "Anyway! See you around, Mr. Death God," exclaimed the cheerful boy as he walked off in the direction of his home. Before he was out of the shinigami's hearing, he yelled, "Give Atari a call about it. I don't feel like explaining!" With that, he disappeared into the distance.

Engel took the cross and used his shunpo going back to his apartment. He set the child down on his couch putting a blanket over her letting her rest, he sat back in his chair across the room dozing off pretty quickly. The night went on his Gigai working tirelessly throughout the night in the lab constantly monitoring battles as they took place throughout the night. Edited by LittleBlackCat: This thread is over!
